This actually happened two weeks ago, but I haven’t had time to blog about it. I’ve been busy and then my wordpress was misbehaving. But the time has finally come for me to report.beer-in-hell

To begin with, if you don’t know who Tucker Max is, go ahead and read about him on wikipedia. Basically, he is a notorious blogger (http://www.tuckermax.com/), who is known for this misogynistic stories about getting wasted, picking up chicks and non-stop partying. In 2006 he released a book called I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell, which has been on the New York Times Best Seller List for the past 4 years. This book is actually featured in my post 5 Books You Should Read, If You Have a Penis.

On September 25th earlier this year, a movie of the same title came out in selected theaters around U.S. In fact, that’s how I met Tucker and that’s how my story begins.

I’ve known about Tucker Max for a quite a while now. I’ve read the stories on his blog and his book about two years ago. At some point, I have also signed up to be on his mailing list. As a result of that about 3 months ago I’ve got an email from Tucker, in which he announced that the prescreening tickets for his movie will be on sale for the mailing list members 3 days before the general public. Given that I already knew I was gonna be in San Francisco in September, I bought two tickets for the SF premiere on September 24th, one day before the official release:

Finally, the day of the premiere has come and I’ve invited my buddy Sina to join me for the screening. When we got the theatre around 6.30pm, there was already a huge line of people waiting. To my suprise. the number of girls in that line was astonishing. I guess all the ultra feminists out there that complain that women don’t like that kind of literature should check their sources.

After about 10 min waiting we have got our wristbands and swag (beer glass, key chain, t-shirt, poster etc). Then, we made our way into the actual theater. One of the coolest things about the event was that Tucker was gonna be there for a Q&A. And, indeed, there he was, hanging out upfront with his co-producer Nils Parker.

When everyone finally sat down, Tucker said that it’s a tradition during the pre-show people tell funny or embarrassing stories about themselves and, if audience in fact finds it funny or embarrassing, the speaker would get a beer pong kit. So people started telling stories. Some were actually quite funny. Tucker wrote about them in his movie blog here.

Then, came the movie. I have to say, I found it absolutely hilarious. I’m not gonna say much else, since I’m no movie critic. However, I will mention one thing, unless you are an ultra feminists that hates Tucker already, you will probably find the movie funny and worth checking out. Don’t believe the flood of negative comments on the net, and just GO AND SEE IT for yourself.

Anyways, after the movie there was a Q&A session. Nothing super interesting to mention there. I asked “Why did they decide to distribute the movie by themselves?”. Tucker replied that the main reason is to be able to make all the decision regarding what goes into the movie and what doesn’t. I think that’s pretty cool on their side. There were some other questions too. Among those, one girl asked, which bar Tucker was going to after the show, and Tucker said “House of Shields”…

Before heading out to the bar, people took pictures with Tucker and got shit signed. Here me, Tucker and Sina:

Anton, Tucker and Sina

Around 10.30pm me and Sina made it to the House of Shields, which is one of the oldest bars in San Francisco located in the SOMA district. Tucker, Nils and other crew members showed up around 11pm. It was a really good time from there on. I got to talk to Tucker face to face, drink a couple of rounds, ask some things about the movie. He definitely has an interesting personality. While he is not as much of a dick as you see him in the book or in the film, he still has a fucked up attitude to people, who he doesn’t know. But after a while, he is a very entertaining person to talk to. If you ever get a chance to meet him, try to break through his external persona and you will be surprised with a number of good things he has to say.

Well, we hung out there until around 1am, when I decided to go home and sleep. After all it was a Thursday and I had to work the next day. Overall, it was a great night. Especially, after on my way home I found 200$ on the street.
